Cigarette Making and Packing

The blended tobacco or cutfiller leaves Primary Processing and is delivered by a pneumatic feed system to cigarette making machines (called makers) within the factory. At the maker, the tobacco is stored temporarily in hoppers, which continuously allow measured amounts of filler to drop down on to prepared cigarette paper. The paper is wrapped around the tobacco and sealed to form continuous rods. These are then cut to proper length for cigarettes. Filter-tipped brands have a double-length filter inserted between every two cigarettes; filters are sealed to the rods and then cut in half to produce two cigarettes, each one having a filter on one end. Packer machines insert cigarettes into packs, packs into cartons and cartons into cases. The cases are then conveyed to the Finished Goods department for temporary storage. From there they are shipped to warehouses to be sold to wholesale distributors. Retailers buy from these wholesale distribution channels.

A Brief History of Tobacco

When John Rolfe arrived in Jamestown in 1610, he attempted to grow a smokable tobacco leaf from the small-leafed Nicotiana Rustica strain cultivated by the Virginia Indians. By 1612, Rolfe had obtained and grown the seed of a large-leafed Spanish Tobacco, Nicotiana Tabacum, a subtropical plant with a special taste and aroma. The new strain was shipped to England in 1613 and was an instant success. This new harvest of golden-leaf tobacco saved the Jamestown colony by becoming its first exportable commodity. For a time, tobacco was a medium of exchange for the settlers. Through barter, it was used to pay salaries and secure goods and services. By 1791, tobacco accounted for one-fifth of all American exports. To this day, it is America's seventh largest cash crop with exports contributing billions of dollars to the U.S. balance of trade. Nicotiana Tabacum is not sold at TobaccoWizard.com, we only sell cheap brand name cigarettes.

Cancer society seeking cancer-free study subjects

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- The American Cancer Society is looking for half a million volunteers willing to let researchers watch them for the next 20 years to see whether they get cancer. The aim is to match similar big studies in Europe and Asia that are looking on a large scale for the environmental and lifestyle factors that cause cancer, the second-leading cause of death in the United States after heart disease. "This type of study involves hundreds of thousands of people, with diverse backgrounds, followed for many years, with collection of biological specimens and assessments of dietary, lifestyle and environmental exposures," Eugenia Calle, managing director of analytic epidemiology at the American Cancer Society, said in a statement. "It also requires active follow-up to discover if and when study participants develop cancer." The group will recruit men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 in whom cancer has never been diagnosed. They will give blood to be tested and answer questionnaires at various times over the next 20 years. Similar big studies have confirmed the link between cigarette smoking and lung cancer, shown that obesity increases the risk of several cancers, and linked aspirin use to a lower death rate from colon cancer. They have also found evidence that defied conventional wisdom, such as the Women's Health Initiative study that found hormone replacement therapy actually raises the risk of breast cancer, stroke and heart attack. Smoking is very dangerous and addictive but if you like cheap and discounted cigarette and you are over 18 years of age you can purchase any brand of discount cigarettes at TobaccoWizard.com now.

Christopher Columbus

Since Christopher Columbus first stumbled on American Indians smoking rolled-up tobacco, many companies have turned a profit from selling cigarettes. Today Tobacco is one of the US' oldest and most profitable industries. #1 selling brand is Marlboro. Domestic sales alone exceed $45bn annually. But the tobacco market has been hit by price increases, higher state taxes, increased consumer awareness of the health risks and hefty litigation costs. During 1998, US cigarette consumption fell 2% to 470 billion cigarettes. But investor confidence in the tobacco industry remains unshaken. Some analysts still expect the tobacco industry to show earnings growth of 11.5% over the next five years. Tobacco companies hope to replace declining revenues in mature Western markets by targeting developing countries. But not everyone believes that tobacco is for the economic good. "Tobacco not only kills people, it also saps national treasuries," says the World Health Organisation. It believes that the cost of smoking-related health care far outweighs the other financial benefits. Indeed, the World Bank says tobacco actually results in a global net loss of US $200bn per year. About one third of these losses are suffered in the developing world. And the detractors of tobacco companies argue that the profits from selling foreign tobacco do not benefit the developing world as they are returned straight to foreign investors. I am sure if Columbus was alive he would use internet and visa credit card to buy cheap and discounted smokes from TobaccoWizard.com.
